Meet Amy Terry, MA, LPC

I am a native Oregonian and grew up in the Portland metro area. I received a bachelor’s degree from University of Oregon in Sociology; Substance Abuse Prevention which ultimately led me to pursue a master’s degree at George Fox University in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.

Outside of my recent work in private practice, I have worked in several other behavioral health settings for the past 8 years; Public health, community mental health, residential treatment, acute hospitalization, and pediatric integrated care.

I have experience providing behavioral treatment for children, adolescents, and parents with diverse backgrounds and ranges of behavioral concerns.

In my free time, I enjoy traveling, sports – football and baseball mostly, trying new foods/places to eat, and spending time with my husband, friends, and two dogs.

I look forward to meeting you.

As your potential therapist there are a few things that will help us in our journey in reaching the goals you have and the healing you hope for.

Therapy is a collaborative effort between the therapist and the client. It is my hope that our work together will be beneficial and that our therapeutic relationship will be strong. I believe that developing a strong working relationship involves finding a “good fit.” therefore, to maximize our potential time together, here are a few ideas that will help the success of reaching your goals.

  1. Be as open to the process as possible. This may take some time as we build our relationship but the more you are able to participate into this journey the more you will access those thoughts, feelings, and emotions.

  2. Be honest! You have nothing to lose from this. I work under strict client-therapist confidentiality laws that keep everything we discuss private. This also includes how you feel we are working together and progressing.

  3. Do the work! This means not only within our session but outside as well. Be willing to read, listen to podcasts, journal, implement new tools or whatever we may have discussed that would be relevant to you and your needs. Part of the work is laying down new neuron pathways in the brain and to do that, one must be willing to flex this new muscle.

  4. Show up and set a consistent schedule. This will allow you to have an optimal experience.
